Supporting Roger

Compassionate Care and Financial Safeguarding After Loss

Care at Home has been providing support to two brothers, Jonathan and Roger (names changed), for nearly six years. Roger, who has learning difficulties, relies on Jonathan for additional care. Tragically, Jonathan’s health deteriorated, leading to end-of-life care. In early September 2024, Jonathan sadly passed away, leaving Roger devastated and without his brother and best friend. Our care manager, Georgie, has been a pillar of support for Roger during this challenging time, assisting him with organising the funeral, selecting flowers, booking a celebrant, and arranging transportation to the service.

During a conversation with Georgie, Roger mentioned that he believed he had enough funds to cover the funeral expenses, as he routinely withdrew £300 each week and stored it in a drawer. Concerned about Roger’s financial management, a senior care worker was assigned to help him sort out his finances and ensure his bills were being paid. When the senior care worker asked where Roger kept the money he withdrew, they discovered a substantial amount of £11,500 in cash tucked away in the drawer. To protect Roger’s assets and secure them in a safer location, with Roger’s consent, the senior care worker and a colleague transferred the money to Roger’s bank account for safekeeping. This measure was taken to safeguard Roger’s financial well-being and ensure that his funds were secure.
